About 11am the phone rings. It's the school. Preparing myself to head out the door to pick up a sick child, I answer. It's the older child.
"Mom, I need you to bring me my other shoe. It's in the back of the van."
"Um, you're only wearing one shoe?"
"No- don't be silly mom. I have two different shoes on. It's Samantha's fault."
"Samantha made you change a shoe?"
"Mom, can you just bring it? People keep asking me about it and I'm embarrassed."
"Sweety, did a shoe break?"
"No."
"Are you bleeding?"
"No."
"Well honey, it's a 45 minute drive to the school and back. I'm afraid you're going to have to wear two different shoes today."
(deep sigh) "Oh all right mom."
Oh kids and their big ideas. Samantha dared her, and she took the dare. Betcha next time she'll think twice about that one. :-D

Amen Mr. Irving!
There is in every true woman's heart a spark of heavenly fire, which
lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity; but which kindles
up, and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.
-- Washington Irving (1783-1859) American Writer
